Job Summary

Sharp HealthCare is seeking an Access Service Representative to join our team. As an Access Service Representative, you will be responsible for coordinating all registration functions necessary to ensure the processing of a clean claim. This includes obtaining and processing patient demographics, visit and financial information in a manner that facilitates maximum financial reimbursement and promotes premier customer service.

Key Responsibilities
  • Registration and Insurance Verification
    • Coordinates all registration functions necessary to ensure the processing of a clean claim.
    • Obtains and processes patient demographics, visit and financial information.
    • Verifies insurance coverage and prioritizes billing order of insurance plans.
    • Validates health benefit coverage, including possible accident-related coverage.
  • Customer Service
    • Provides excellent customer service to patients and their families.
    • Communicates effectively with patients, families, and healthcare providers.
    • Uses AIDET, key words at key times, and On-Stage Behavior to deliver exceptional patient satisfaction.
  • Regulatory Responsibilities
    • Observes EMTALA regulations by avoiding communication of financial information until medical screening is completed.
    • Reviews Conditions of Admission (COA) and updates Centricity fields accordingly.
    • Delivers regulatory forms, such as Tricare Rights and Important Message from Medicare (IMM), as required.
  • Other Duties
    • Performs other duties as assigned by leadership.
    • Collects patient valuables and secures them according to policy.
    • Updates patient information and initiates Health Information Exchange (HIE) process as needed.
Requirements
  • 2 years of experience in a business service setting.
  • Must have experience communicating effectively both verbally and in writing professionally.
  • Knowledge of Medical Terminology, insurances, billing and collections guidelines/criteria, and Local, State, and Federal regulations governing registration/billing activities.
  • Knowledge of ICD-10, CPT, and/or RVS coding.
  • Knowledge of Medicare Important Message, Medicare Secondary Payor, Tricare Third Party Liability, Auto Accident and Work Comp, and Medicare/Outpatient Observation Notice.
Preferred Qualifications
  • H.S. Diploma or Equivalent.
  • Experience communicating and discussing personal and financial matters with patients and/or their representatives.
