Position Overview

Join the compassionate team at CHI St. Joseph's Health as a Nutritional Services Associate within our Nutrition Services department. This role is vital in fulfilling CHI Health's mission by ensuring that patients receive appropriate meals and beverages in accordance with established menus and production guidelines. You will play a key role in the assembly of patient trays and perform various related tasks, including operating and maintaining the dishwasher. Your exceptional customer service abilities will be showcased while serving meals to guests in retail settings, such as dining centers or coffee shops, and managing cash register operations. Your meticulous attention to detail will be essential in maintaining records, inventories, surveys, and other controls pertinent to all retail services. The Nutritional Services Associate will exemplify teamwork by collaborating to ensure proper storage and equipment operation across all food service areas, adhering to high standards of sanitation and safety protocols, and reporting any unsafe conditions.

CHI St. Joseph's Health, part of CommonSpirit Health, is a recognized 25-bed critical access hospital that provides a comprehensive range of services, including an emergency department and trauma care, to promote better health outcomes.

Key Responsibilities
  • Prepare and serve nutritious, safe, and appealing meals to patients, families, and staff that support health and recovery.
  • Ensure the preparation and service of meals for all patients, accommodating regular, therapeutic, and texture-modified diets.
  • Follow established standardized recipes, IDDSI guidelines, and safe food handling practices when preparing patient meals.
  • Utilize meal service software to accurately place diet orders for hospital patients based on their food preferences, allergens, and nutritional requirements.
  • Adhere to the policies and procedures of the Nutrition Services Department, state food codes, and the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and sanitary kitchen environment in accordance with departmental standards.
  • Collect soiled trays and utensils from patient care areas and retail outlets.
  • Keep all equipment and work areas organized and clean. Manage tray, china, and silverware supplies in retail settings. Load, deliver, and return food carts to and from patient areas.
  • Set up retail outlets with hot and cold food items and beverages according to established guidelines.
  • Perform additional responsibilities as outlined in the formal job description.
  • Complete other tasks as assigned.
Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Servsafe Food Handler certification is required within 90 days of hire.
  • Ability to read, write, and follow oral and written instructions.
  • Strong communication skills with co-workers, supervisors, and management.
  • Must pass the health screening mandated by the hospital.
  • Capability to lift and carry a minimum of 25 pounds.
  • Ability to remain on your feet throughout the workday. Good eye-hand coordination is essential.
  • Ability to bend, stoop, squat, climb on a step ladder, and reach above shoulder level.
  • Ability to crouch, kneel, and maintain balance.
  • Proficiency in using both hands simultaneously.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Familiarity with navigating computer systems.
  • Experience in healthcare, educational, or commercial food service environments.
  • One to three years of experience in food service.
