Washington, United States Public Citizen Full time

At Public Citizen, we're on a mission to hold the government and corporations accountable for their actions. As a Zero Emission Vehicle Policy Advocate, you'll play a crucial role in pushing for strong ZEV policies that align with a 1.5°C pathway.

Company Overview

Public Citizen is a national, non-partisan, public interest group with over 500,000 members and supporters. We've made a significant impact in the past, from advocating for airbags and backup cameras in cars to ensuring there were no red M&Ms for a decade. Our work is far from over, and we need a dedicated advocate like you to help us drive change.

Job Description

As a Zero Emission Vehicle Policy Advocate, you'll be responsible for:

  • Advocating before Congress and federal and state agencies to push for strong ZEV policies.
  • Helping plan and execute legislative and administrative advocacy campaigns.
  • Collaborating with other staff to engage activists in influencing policy.
  • Assisting with drafting white papers, reports, fact sheets, letters, testimony, and comments on proposed rules.

Responsibilities

You'll also be responsible for:

  • Representing Public Citizen in public forums.
  • Participating in coalitions and helping to organize and lead them when necessary.
  • Serving as a spokesperson for the organization.
  • Developing and maintaining media relationships and responding to press inquiries.

Qualifications

We're looking for someone with experience in policies related to fuel economy, ZEVs, auto safety, or adjacent areas. If you don't have direct experience, you should be eager to learn and able to pick up new skills quickly. You'll need outstanding analytical thinking, judgment, and oral and written communication skills. Independence, self-starting, and self-finishing abilities are a must, as well as the ability to execute planned strategy while reacting to new developments and to balance multiple projects and priorities.

Salary and Benefits

This is a grant-contingent position, and we offer a competitive salary and generous benefit package. The salary range is $74,368-$123,360, and benefits include:

  • Great medical and dental coverage, 100% paid by PC, including full coverage for children.
  • Three weeks paid vacation for new employees, plus five personal days.
  • A 401K plan with a 5% contribution from PC after one year of employment.
  • 12 weeks of paid parental leave after one year of employment.
  • A sabbatical after 10 years of employment.
  • Student loan reimbursement program.

How to Apply

Submit a single document that includes a cover letter, resume, and writing sample of no more than five pages. Women, people of color, people who identify as LGBTQ+, and multilingual speakers are encouraged to apply. Public Citizen is an equal opportunity employer.
