About the Role

The ACLU - National Office seeks a highly skilled Senior Policy Advocate to join its Policy and Government Affairs team in the Liberty Division. This is a hybrid role with in-office requirements of two days per week or eight days per month. The Senior Policy Advocate will work with national staff and ACLU affiliates to protect and expand reproductive freedom and combat measures that restrict abortion access.

Key Responsibilities
  • Advocate for and provide policy expertise on legislative, administrative, and electoral efforts at the state and local level to impact reproductive freedom and access to abortion care.
  • Develop strategic legislative, administrative, and ballot policy options to advance reproductive freedom.
  • Lobby elected officials, their staff, and other public officials to support ACLU positions on pending legislation and policy initiatives.
  • Coordinate and conduct in-depth civil liberties briefings for government officials to advance reproductive freedom.
  • Provide legislative counseling to ACLU affiliates to support state and/or local efforts.
  • Oversee state legislative tracking of bills related to reproductive freedom.
  • Contribute to a resource library for use by national and affiliate staff on reproductive freedom issues.
  • Collaborate with cross-issue policy teams to ensure relationship management, coordination, and alignment of work within the department.
  • Help coordinate strategy designed to reach campaign goals or other policy/political outcomes related to reproductive freedom.
Requirements
  • Advanced degree (J.D., M.P.P.) or substantial equivalent training and experience in policy analysis, advocacy, or campaigns.
  • Prior lobbying experience strongly preferred.
  • Significant experience working in political, policy, legal, or government settings.
  • Demonstrated expertise in reproductive health, rights, and justice or related field.
  • Excellent research, writing, analytical, and communication skills.
  • Ability to communicate complex legal and policy issues to government decision makers and the general public.
Compensation

The annual salary for this position is $152,226 (Level E), reflecting the salary of a position based in Washington, D.C or New York, NY. The ACLU values equity, transparency, and clarity in pay, and this position is subject to a hybrid schedule of 2 days/week or 8 days/month in-office.
