Job Summary

The Commonwealth of Virginia is seeking a highly skilled Senior Budget Analyst to join our team. As a key member of our financial operations team, you will be responsible for providing concise analysis of program and financial operations, identifying issues, and developing solutions.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide technical support for automated data systems and coordination of specific projects and tasks as assigned.
  • Develop and maintain financial models, forecasts, and reports to inform budget decisions.
  • Collaborate with department managers and other key stakeholders to ensure accurate and timely financial information.
  • Identify and analyze financial trends, risks, and opportunities to inform budget planning and decision-making.
  • Develop and implement budget planning and execution strategies to achieve departmental goals and objectives.
Requirements
  • Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles and financial management practices.
  • Extensive knowledge of program operations and fiscal practices, policies, and procedures.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Commonwealth of Virginia systems such as CARDINAL, eVA, and Performance Budgeting.
  • Demonstrated experience in program budget planning, formulation, evaluation, and execution.
  • Ability to manipulate large data sets through automated systems, spreadsheets, and databases.
  • Ability to ensure accuracy and deadline achievement, appropriate analysis of data and situations, and sound advice and recommendations to Department managers and other key members of management.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Training and/or experience in finance, accounting, public administration, political science, business, financial management, economics, or a closely related field.
  • Experience in financial management in a medium to large entity with multiple fund sources and budgets.
  • Experience should include using computer applications for complex and detailed analysis.
