Position Overview: We are looking for a dedicated and experienced Senior IT Systems Engineer to enhance the reliability, scalability, and security of our IT infrastructure. This role involves managing and optimizing our Windows server environment and VMware virtualization platform, while also leading the design and implementation of advanced file management systems. Your expertise will be crucial in ensuring smooth operations, resolving system-related issues, and driving IT projects that align with our organizational objectives.

Contract Details: This is a contract position expected to last between 4 to 6 months, requiring approximately 30 hours of work per week, and is fully remote. Candidates must be authorized to work in the US without the need for sponsorship, both now and in the future.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Management of Server Environment: Administer and maintain the Windows server environment, focusing on Active Directory, Group Policy, DNS, DHCP, and file services to ensure optimal performance and reliability.
  • Virtualization Management: Oversee and secure our VMware vSphere environment, optimizing configurations to ensure high availability and enhance system performance.
  • File Management System Development: Spearhead the design and deployment of a Distributed File System (DFS) to improve file management, replication, and accessibility across the network.
  • System Monitoring and Support: Continuously monitor system health and performance, providing expert troubleshooting, performance tuning, and capacity planning to mitigate potential issues.
  • Collaboration Across Functions: Collaborate with various departments to design and implement IT solutions that meet changing business needs and adhere to industry best practices.
  • Documentation and Knowledge Management: Create and maintain detailed documentation of system configurations, processes, and procedures to ensure consistency and facilitate effective knowledge transfer within the team.
  • Contribution to Business Initiatives: Engage in various IT-related projects and initiatives, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and strategies.
  • Compliance and Safety Assurance: Ensure all IT activities adhere to safety standards, training requirements, and corporate policies.
  • Additional Responsibilities: Perform other duties as necessary to support the IT department and the broader organization.

Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in computer science, information technology, or a related discipline.
  • Experience: Minimum of 5 years in a senior IT engineering position, with a focus on Windows server environments and VMware virtualization.
  • Technical Skills: Proficient in Windows server operating systems, including Active Directory, Group Policy, DNS, DHCP, and file services. Extensive experience with VMware vSphere, including ESXi, vCenter, iSCSI, and vMotion.
  • Certifications: Relevant certifications such as Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer (MCSE), VMware Certified Professional (VCP), or equivalent are highly desirable.
  • Cloud Experience: Familiarity with cloud services such as Microsoft Azure or AWS is a plus.
  • Scripting and Automation: Knowledge of scripting languages like PowerShell or Python for task automation and process optimization.
  • Disaster Recovery Knowledge: Understanding of backup and disaster recovery solutions to ensure data integrity and business continuity.
  • Networking Acumen: Strong grasp of networking concepts, including TCP/IP, VLANs, routing, and switching.
  • Problem-Solving Ability: Proven ability to diagnose and resolve complex IT issues swiftly and effectively.
  • Communication Skills: Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the capability to collaborate effectively across all levels of the organization.
  • Proactive Approach: Energetic and proactive mindset, with the ability to take initiative and adapt to changing priorities.
  • Independence and Task Management: Ability to work independently, manage multiple tasks, and thrive in a dynamic environment.
