Position Title: Legal Research Intern

Organization: Arizona Official Website of State of Arizona

This internship opportunity is designed for individuals currently pursuing a degree in law or a related discipline.

The role offers part-time hours compensated at an hourly wage.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Produce a comprehensive memorandum analyzing the legislative history of the Colorado River Basin Salinity Control Act funding and evaluate the implications of the Arizona Water Settlements Act on Arizona's contributions to the Lower Basin Fund.
  • Attend meetings of various Board of Directors within the Colorado River Basin region and document discussions.
  • Engage in addressing specific inquiries related to Colorado River entitlements.
  • Provide assistance with filing tasks when on-site.

Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSAs):

  • Demonstrated interest or background in Western Water Law and Administrative Law.
  • Strong research skills in legislative history, including familiarity with committee reports, floor debates, and conference reports.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

Essential Skills:

  • Outstanding written communication abilities are essential.
  • Capability to research and interpret water resource data from historical documents, photographs, maps, etc.
  • Experience in managing files and records, including the use of computerized databases for data entry and retrieval.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills with a keen attention to detail.

Ability to:

  • Quickly acquire proficiency in the specified areas to meet internship goals.
  • Effectively prioritize and manage multiple tasks and projects.
  • Communicate clearly and efficiently in both verbal and written formats.
  • Consistently meet deadlines.

Preferred Qualifications:

Candidates should be enrolled in graduate studies focusing on law or a related policy area.
