Mechanical Engineer/Material Scientist

We are seeking a highly skilled Mechanical Engineer/Material Scientist to join our Materials Design and Optimization Division at Penn State University. As a member of our team, you will be responsible for designing, developing, and implementing innovative materials and systems for various applications. Your expertise in materials science and engineering will be crucial in driving our research and development efforts.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design and develop new materials and systems using computational tools and techniques such as Abaqus, Ansys, NX, Solidworks, and Matlab.
- Conduct materials process development and optimization, including materials selection, process optimization, and hands-on prototype skills.
- Perform mechanical testing, data analysis, and nondestructive inspection for a range of geometries from material coupons to full-scale hardware, including instrumentation.
- Collaborate with other team members, engineers, and scientists to accomplish organizational goals and contribute to technical reports, documents, and oral/written presentations.
Requirements:
- Master's or Doctorate degree in an Engineering or Science discipline.
- Strong understanding of basic engineering principles and ability to apply them to real-world problems.
- Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.
- Ability to work in a team environment and provide ideas to improve efficiency at the group level.
Preferred Skills:
- Active government security clearance.

The working location can be hybrid on-site/work from home located in State College.
