Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled Materials Scientist/Mechanical Engineer to join our team at Penn State University's Applied Research Laboratory (ARL). As a member of our Materials Design and Optimization Division, you will play a key role in developing innovative solutions to challenging national problems in support of the Navy, DoD, and Intel communities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design and develop new materials and material systems for various applications
  • Conduct research and analysis to optimize material properties and performance
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate materials into complex systems
  • Develop and implement novel fabrication and testing methods
  • Contribute to the development of technical reports, documents, and presentations
Requirements
  • Master's or Doctorate degree in Materials Science, Mechanical Engineering, or related field
  • Strong background in materials science and engineering principles
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and meet deadlines
  • Active government security clearance
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with computational design and analysis tools (e.g. Abaqus, Ansys)
  • Knowledge of materials process development and optimization
  • Skills in mechanical testing, data analysis, and nondestructive inspection
  • Experience with project management and leadership
