Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Research Scientist in Materials Science and Engineering to join our team at Penn State University. The successful candidate will be responsible for conducting experimental research in thin film synthesis science, microelectronic materials, materials for quantum information systems, materials for infrared nano-photonics, high-entropy materials, and the fundamentals of ferroelectricity.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct experimental research in thin film synthesis science, microelectronic materials, materials for quantum information systems, materials for infrared nano-photonics, high-entropy materials, and the fundamentals of ferroelectricity.
  • Collaborate with teams supported by three MURIs (ARO, ONR, and AFOSR), an NSF MRSEC, and a DoE EFRC to receive support from partners specializing in multiscale modeling, beamline science, and multi-modal microscopy.
  • Participate in graduate student mentoring, research proposal preparation, and travel domestically and internationally to support collaborations and represent their research group at programmatic reviews, conferences, and workshops.
Requirements
  • A Ph.D. in Materials Science and Engineering or related discipline by the time of hire.
  • Ability to participate in graduate student mentoring, research proposal preparation, and travel domestically and internationally.
