- Education and Certification: Completion of medical assistant training through a reputable program, such as the WACH apprenticeship program or a college program accredited by the Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools (ABHES) or the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP).
- Certification: Certification through the American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA), National Healthcareer Association (NHA), or National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT) within 120 days of hire.
- Experience: Previous experience in a community health clinic or a similar setting is preferred.
- Skills: Excellent customer service and oral and written communication skills, compassion for patients, ability to work well in a team environment, ability to multi-task in a fast-paced work environment, basic computer user skills, medical terminology, and accurate spelling ability.
- Standing and Mobility: Medical Assistants are required to stand, sit, and be mobile one-third to two-thirds of the time.
- Hand Use: Use hands to finger, handle, or feel over two-thirds of the time.
- Reach and Balance: Reach with hands and arms, and climb or balance occurs less than one-third of the time.
- Stooping and Lifting: Stooping, kneeling, or crouching occurs between one-third and two-thirds of the day, and lifting or exerting force is about 50% for up to 10 pounds and less than one-third of the time up to 25 pounds.
