Job Overview:

This position is part of the Business and Income Tax Division at the State of Montana, responsible for ensuring secure handling and processing of taxpayer information and data. The successful candidate will conduct technical-level examinations on assigned tax returns, involving research, data verification, return adjustments, and communication with taxpayers and their representatives. They will also participate in the appeal process, assist in the development of audit programs and procedures, and draft summary reports of audit findings.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conducting tax return examinations and research
  • Verifying data and adjusting tax returns
  • Providing communication to taxpayers and their representatives
  • Participating in the appeal process
  • Assisting in the development of audit programs and procedures
  • Drafting summary reports of audit findings

Requirements:

  • Self-motivated and strong work ethic
  • Ability to follow instructions and provide timely and accurate customer service
  • Ability to work under pressure and be open-minded and think creatively

Remote/Telework: This position may be eligible to work from an approved worksite within the state of Montana. Employees must meet and sustain Department of Revenue telework eligibility requirements and supervisor's approval to participate in the DOR Telework Program.

Training Assignment: This agency may use a training assignment. Employees in training assignments may be paid below the base pay established by the agency pay rules. Conditions of the training assignment will be stated in writing at the time of hire.
