Key Responsibilities:

Revolutionize Staples' systems from the foundation up by designing next-generation supply chain solutions, including:

  • Fulfillment optimization
  • Price optimization
  • Inventory planning and optimization
  • Last-mile delivery route optimization

Collaborate with a diverse team of Software, Data, Machine Learning, and Applied Engineers to develop high-performance applications that engage with large-scale distributed systems. Innovate ideas, create prototypes, and bring optimization applications into production. Write software programs, conduct quality tests, and deploy models to the cloud for operational use. Analyze extensive data related to Staples systems, identify patterns, and construct models based on data insights. Implement best practices in software engineering and constraint optimization.

Take ownership of architecting and leading the development of highly scalable and available solutions in both public cloud and on-premises environments. Engage in the entire SaaS lifecycle, promoting adoption and scalability while applying best practices that enhance agility and quality. Work closely with product and program management to derive application requirements, set expectations, and communicate progress effectively.

Qualifications:

  • 14+ years of experience in addressing enterprise-scale constraint optimization challenges.
  • Proven technical leadership in the optimization domain and familiarity with relevant solvers (e.g., Gurobi).
  • Experience in leading teams and developing software focused on optimization-driven planning and decision-making at an enterprise level.
  • Background in delivering solutions for fulfillment optimization, price optimization, inventory planning, and routing optimization.
  • Involvement in all phases of software development, including concept, design, prototyping, and production release, adhering to industry best practices in DevOps.
  • Ability to analyze large datasets to assess the business impact of optimization solutions.
  • Strong diagnostic, debugging, and troubleshooting skills to enhance existing systems.
  • Self-driven and energetic, capable of executing business objectives effectively.
  • Expertise in developing low-latency, scalable distributed systems.
  • Ensure technical solutions adhere to best practices, are reliable, and maintainable.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to foster effective working relationships across teams.
  • Experience leading teams throughout the software development lifecycle.
  • Proficient in debugging and troubleshooting.
  • A collaborative team player who fosters a cooperative environment.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Graduate-level education in computer science or related fields.
  • 14+ years of hands-on experience in solving optimization problems using solvers like Gurobi.
  • Strong programming skills in Java/Python frameworks, implementing microservices and applying object-oriented design principles.
  • Understanding of operating distributed data systems at scale, including event-driven solutions and lambda services.
  • Expertise in building scalable implementations with modern data processing frameworks and relational databases.
  • Knowledge of professional software engineering practices throughout the full software development lifecycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations.
  • Experience with messaging systems such as Kafka, Rabbit MQ, IBM MQ, or Solace.
  • Ability to architect and develop reliable, fault-tolerant distributed applications with a focus on performance and scalability in the cloud.
  • Demonstrated understanding of Agile principles, including technical designs, iterative development, and code reviews.
