Key Responsibilities:
Revolutionize Staples' systems by designing cutting-edge supply chain solutions, including fulfillment optimization, pricing strategies, inventory management, and last-mile delivery routing. Collaborate with a diverse team of Software, Data, Machine Learning, and Applied Engineers to create high-performance applications that interface with extensive distributed systems. Innovate ideas, prototype, develop, and deploy optimization applications. Write software programs, conduct quality tests, and transition models to cloud environments for production. Analyze large datasets related to Staples' operations, identify patterns, and construct models using this data. Promote best practices in software engineering and constraint optimization methodologies. Define the future technology roadmap for ongoing projects at Staples.
Take ownership of architecting and leading the development of scalable and reliable implementations in both public cloud and on-premises environments. Engage in the complete SaaS lifecycle, fostering adoption and scalability while applying best practices that enhance agility and quality. Work closely with product and program management to clarify application requirements, set expectations, and communicate progress effectively.
Qualifications:
- 14+ years of experience in addressing enterprise-level constraint optimization challenges.
- Proven technical leadership in the optimization domain, with expertise in relevant solvers such as Gurobi.
- Experience in leading teams and developing software focused on optimization-driven planning and decision-making at an enterprise scale.
- Background in delivering solutions for fulfillment optimization, pricing strategies, inventory planning, and routing optimization.
- Involvement in all stages of software development, from concept and design to prototyping and production release, adhering to industry-leading DevOps practices.
- Ability to analyze large volumes of data to evaluate the business impact of optimization solutions.
- Strong diagnostic, debugging, and troubleshooting skills to enhance existing systems.
- Self-driven and energetic, with a focus on achieving business objectives.
- Expertise in developing low-latency, scalable distributed systems.
- Commitment to ensuring technical solutions are reliable, maintainable, and adhere to best practices.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to foster effective relationships across teams.
- Experience in guiding teams throughout the software development lifecycle.
- Proficiency in debugging and troubleshooting processes.

Basic Qualifications:
- Graduate-level education in computer science or related fields.
- 14+ years of hands-on experience in solving optimization problems using solvers like Gurobi.
- Strong programming skills in Java/Python frameworks, implementing microservices, and applying object-oriented design principles.
- Understanding of operating distributed data systems at scale, including event-driven solutions and lambda services.
- Expertise in building scalable solutions with modern data processing frameworks and relational databases.
- Knowledge of professional software engineering practices throughout the software development lifecycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations.
- Experience with messaging systems such as Kafka, Rabbit MQ, IBM MQ, or Solace.
- Ability to architect and develop reliable, fault-tolerant distributed applications with a focus on performance and scalability in cloud environments.
- Demonstrated understanding of Agile principles, including technical design, iterative development, and code reviews.
