Job Summary / Purpose


Under the supervision of healthcare professionals, the Medical Assistant Specialist plays a vital role in delivering patient care that prioritizes safety and wellbeing.


Key Responsibilities Include:
  • Conducting preliminary physical assessments such as measuring blood pressure, recording weight, temperature, pulse, and respiration, in accordance with established clinical protocols.
  • Providing general patient care by adhering to established standards and procedures.
  • Welcoming and preparing patients for their appointments with healthcare providers.
  • Collecting and documenting vital signs, including blood pressure, temperature, pulse, respiration, height, weight, drug allergies, current medications, and presenting concerns.
  • Performing blood draws and preparing specimens for laboratory analysis as needed.
  • Administering prescribed medications and/or vaccines through various methods, including oral, injection, topical, rectal, ophthalmic, and inhalant.
  • Conducting routine tests, such as EKGs, as required.
  • Coordinating patient scheduling for diagnostic tests and ensuring follow-up for completion.
  • Communicating test results and care plans to patients via phone or mail as directed by the healthcare provider.
  • Preparing, cleaning, and sterilizing medical instruments while maintaining equipment; ensuring patient exam rooms are stocked, clean, and orderly; disposing of contaminated items according to protocol.
  • Documenting patient care plans, test results, and examination findings in medical records as directed.
  • Escalating non-routine issues and concerns to the practice manager or healthcare providers.
  • Completing safety checklists and quality control measures as required.
  • Ensuring patient safety and the protection of patient privacy rights.
  • Performing additional duties as assigned by management.

Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications

Education and Experience:
  • High School Diploma (or GED equivalent) and completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program. Specialized training, such as Non-Certified Radiologic Technician (NCT), may be required.
Licensure and Certifications:
  • Current/valid Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) certification or Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) certification, as applicable.
  • BLS – CPR certification required within 5 days of employment.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Training:
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience as a Medical Assistant.
  • Ability to perform urine drug screens and administer injections.
  • Effective communication skills with both staff and patients.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of examination, diagnostic, and treatment room procedures.
  • Thorough understanding of medical terminology and abbreviations.
  • Sound judgment and composure in emergency situations.
  • Positive and caring attitude towards patients.
  • Proficient computer skills using medical management applications.
  • Strong work ethic and professionalism.
