The role of Financial Counselor Lead is pivotal in our team, assisting patients and their families in navigating the complexities of payment collection with clarity and comfort.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Uphold Orlando Health's dedication to exemplary customer service, performing duties that align with departmental service goals.
  • Maintain a positive and professional demeanor while effectively communicating with patients and team members.
  • Identify and resolve customer service challenges, initiating follow-up as necessary.
  • Accurately gather and input patient and guarantor demographic and financial information.
  • Clarify necessary documentation and secure signatures from patients or guarantors.
  • Engage with appropriate payers to verify benefits and obtain required authorizations.
  • Utilize reports to follow up with insurance payers regarding pending, denied, or appealed accounts.
  • Explain insurance benefits and collect co-pays, deductibles, and self-pay amounts.
  • Manage collections for related professional services as needed.
  • Address outstanding balances from previous accounts and establish payment arrangements as appropriate.
  • Resolve patient billing inquiries and issues comprehensively.
  • Collaborate with Primary Care or Admitting Physicians to obtain necessary authorizations and detailed information.
  • Document authorization and benefit details in the registration system.
  • Compile patient records and secure copies of relevant documents, including insurance cards and identification.
  • Demonstrate a thorough understanding of third-party reimbursement requirements and regulations.
  • Exhibit proficiency in using registration and scheduling systems, electronic verification tools, and web-based resources.
  • Adhere to Patient Financial Services self-pay policies, including the completion of financial applications and explanation of payment options.
  • Screen patients and guarantors for eligibility in assistance programs and complete necessary applications.
  • Follow cash handling policies and perform cashiering functions accurately.
  • Maintain knowledge of medical necessity screening processes and relevant coding systems.
  • Perform pre-registration tasks, including communication with physician offices and insurance payers.
  • Serve as a resource for training new team members and support the implementation of process improvements.
  • Maintain departmental logs for statistical reporting and meet departmental goals for collections and customer service.
  • Participate in staff meetings and maintain compliance with all Orlando Health policies and procedures.

Qualifications:

  • Education: High School diploma or equivalent required; completion of annual educational requirements in Corporate and Patient Financial Services.
  • Experience: Minimum of two years in a financial, business office, or customer service role; proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and typing skills required.
