POSITION OVERVIEW

Under the supervision of a healthcare provider, the Certified Medical Assistant plays a crucial role in delivering quality patient care.

Responsibilities include a diverse range of patient care tasks such as maintaining clinical documentation, administering medications, providing injections, monitoring vital signs, scheduling appointments, and training new staff members.

The role also involves identifying challenges and contributing to process enhancement initiatives.

Additionally, the Certified Medical Assistant may facilitate team meetings and manage workflow or staff schedules.



ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

- Answer calls for the provider: relay messages and make calls as directed; conduct reminder calls as necessary.

- Complete necessary paperwork, including scanning, stamping, and filing as required.

- Ensure all documentation for patient visits is prepared for the provider.

- Schedule patient appointments and follow-up tests as needed.

- Assist providers in examination and procedure rooms with tasks such as lumbar punctures, ultrasounds, biopsies, and dressing changes.

- Support patient case management efforts.

- Aid in cardiac monitoring, set up and operate EKG equipment, and manage electrode placement.

- Monitor inventory levels to ensure availability of necessary supplies and reorder as needed.

- Collect and document medical data to assist providers in assessing patient needs.

- Perform finger sticks, phlebotomy, or provide instructions for specimen collection as required.

- Measure and record vital signs, including pulse oximetry, blood pressure, pulse, respiration, and height/weight screening.

- Retrieve lab results from the electronic health record system as necessary.

- Document medication refill requests and patient data in charts.

- Conduct foley catheter insertions, establish IV access (if applicable), and perform sterile dressing changes.

- Prepare patients for examinations and tests.

- Sterilize instruments and tools appropriately.

- Set up for suture placement or removal as needed.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

- Licenses and Certifications:

Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.

Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) certification.

- Experience:

A minimum of 2 years of experience as a CMA is preferred.

High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
