Position Overview
Join the UT Southwestern team as a Certified Medical Office Assistant (CMOA). This diverse CMOA role allows you to engage with patients directly, assisting registered nurses, practitioners, physician assistants, and physicians across various specialties. As an integral member of our ambulatory department, you will be tasked with delivering an outstanding patient experience, which includes but is not limited to patient rooming and intake, medication reconciliation, medication administration, assistance with procedures, processing scopes, and ensuring exam rooms are prepared for the next patient. This collaborative environment will enable you to work closely with a varied patient demographic and enhance your skills as a CMOA. Qualifications
Candidates with over one year of recent direct patient care experience in a clinical or hospital setting are encouraged to apply. Experience with EPIC is highly preferred but not mandatory.
Shift Requirement: Days, Monday through Friday
Education and Experience
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant training program, or one (1) year of patient care experience in a physician office or hospital setting is required.
- CPR certification or Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from an accredited course by the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross (ARC) is required before the first day of employment.
- Medical Assistant certification and maintenance of current certified status obtained through one of the following is required:
- The American Association of Medical Assistants
- The American Medical Technologists Association
- The National Association for Health Professionals
- The National Center for Competency Testing
- The National Healthcareer Association
- American Allied Health
Key Responsibilities
- Measure, record, and report patient vital signs using medical equipment; perform low-complexity procedures such as visual acuity, musculoskeletal screening, POC testing, phlebotomy, EKG testing, and other approved diagnostic tests.
- Escort or transport patients to exam or treatment rooms as directed.
- Document completion of patient care tasks in medical records and reinforce education provided by the physician or nurse, seeking assistance as appropriate.
- Assist in patient care by preparing exam rooms, facilitating the use of diagnostic equipment, and ensuring availability of necessary patient information, such as diagnostic exam results and medical records.
- Assume responsibility for weekly autoclave temperature monitoring, POC testing quality assurance, and monthly compliance audit reports as directed by clinic management.
- Serve as a mentor and resource for newly hired medical assistants and externs, actively participating in their integration into the department.
- Perform various administrative duties, including scheduling patient appointments, pre-certifying procedures, and answering patient inquiries by collecting data for the nurse's triage.
- Inspect equipment and facilities to ensure patient safety and proper functioning.
- May act as a clinic safety officer, verifying employee knowledge of fire safety and evacuation plans as directed.
- Confirm that appropriate patient consent and authorization forms are signed for research and/or medical treatment.
- Maintain current customer service, clinical, and technical skills by attending training programs and participating in annual skills competency reviews.
- Ensure adequate stock of supplies in the work area and may provide occasional supervision to non-licensed medical and/or clerical support personnel for non-clinical activities.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
