Position Summary:

The Emergency Room is equipped with 10 beds and caters to a wide range of cases, including abdominal pains, falls, strokes, chest pain, and headaches, serving patients from pediatric to geriatric age groups.

The unit operates with a team of 2 ED RNs available 24/7, alongside a Critical Care Unit Coordinator (CNA) and additional ED RNs throughout the day. Critical Care Services are supported by a Charge RN and an ER MD present around the clock.



Job Responsibilities:
1.

The Registered Nurse is expected to effectively manage a high volume of patient, family, staff, and physician priorities within tight timeframes, demonstrating critical thinking, delegation skills, and respectful communication.


  • Deliver quality care to all patients while ensuring safety throughout their care journey, advocating for patient rights and decisions.
  • Conduct thorough admission assessments in line with unit policies, utilizing medical history and physical evaluations.
  • Accurately identify nursing diagnoses and collaborative issues to determine suitable interventions based on accepted care standards.
  • Assess the unique needs of adult, geriatric, adolescent, and pediatric patients to develop tailored care plans.
  • Maintain precise and objective patient records.
  • Ensure the accuracy and efficiency of medical orders.
  • Organize patient care responsibilities effectively while remaining adaptable to changing environments.
  • Utilize departmental equipment proficiently, demonstrating knowledge of necessary preparations for specific procedures.
  • Possess nursing skills in areas such as IV access, ECG interpretation, hemodynamic monitoring, airway management, and infection control.
  • Communicate professionally and collaborate with patients, families, colleagues, and healthcare team members to ensure coordinated patient-centered care.
  • Ensure that care plans align with nursing standards and hospital policies.
  • Engage in performance improvement initiatives.
  • Stay informed about The Joint Commission standards and integrate them into critical care nursing practices.
  • Collaborate with and delegate tasks to ancillary staff while ensuring adherence to their scopes of practice.
  • Participate in professional development activities to uphold accountability for nursing practice.
  • Contribute to staff meetings, committees, and projects aimed at enhancing Critical Care Services.
  • Be open to cross-training in ICU to maintain competency.

Qualifications:
1. Must be registered with the Minnesota Board of Nursing; BSN preferred.

  • At least one year of Critical Care experience within the last five years.

a. ECG recognition/interpretation required within six months of employment.

b. Emergency Department experience is preferred.

c. Certification as an Emergency Nurse (CEN) is preferred.


  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certifications are required.
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) or Emergency Nursing Pediatric Course (ENPC) certification must be obtained within six months of employment.
  • Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) or Comprehensive Advanced Life Support (CALS) certification must be achieved within twelve months of employment.
  • Demonstrated ability to adhere to Grand Itasca Clinic and Hospital policies, vision, mission, and values.
  • Reliable and consistent attendance is essential. Candidates with one year of RN experience may also be considered.
