Position Overview


The Environmental Protection and Compliance division is in search of a reliable professional to deliver deployed environmental compliance assistance to various facilities, operations, and projects in alignment with the laboratory's mission.

You will work closely with subject matter experts within the Environmental Protection and Compliance Division to ensure that environmentally compliant operations are effectively planned and executed in the field.

Your role will be to serve as a trusted environmental resource, aiding the organization you are assigned to in navigating the extensive environmental regulations pertinent to your designated area.

Throughout your responsibilities, you will have the opportunity to engage with a variety of unique and stimulating environmental programs.

Key Responsibilities


Your daily tasks will encompass monitoring and providing guidance on a wide range of environmental regulations and complex issues.

As an experienced environmental professional, you will leverage your diverse background to independently address specific challenges while collaborating with your team to establish goals and objectives.

This role is ideal for a highly motivated and customer-focused individual, offering a chance to work alongside environmental experts while supporting the laboratory's diverse mission. Note that this position may involve working during non-standard hours, including weekends.


Core Activities Include:
• Conducting environmental compliance inspections and maintaining documentation;
• Performing site assessments to evaluate adherence to environmental standards;
• Assessing environmental risks and collaborating with stakeholders to formulate corrective actions;
• Developing and revising environmental implementation documents or reports;
• Partnering with environmental program experts and deployed teams to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.What You Need
Minimum Qualifications:


• Proficient knowledge and experience in applying two major federal/state environmental protection statutes related to water quality, air quality, biological resources, pollution prevention, cultural resources, and the National Environmental Policy Act.

• Proven ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a dynamic team environment, demonstrating strong interpersonal skills.


• Experience in clear and concise communication, both written and verbal, with superiors, peers, clients, and team members.


• Competence in evaluating complex work scopes and technical documents for compliance with a broad spectrum of environmental regulations.

• Eligibility to obtain a DOE "Q" Clearance, which typically necessitates U.S. Citizenship.
Education and Experience:

• A Bachelor's Degree in a relevant field and a minimum of 5 years of related experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.


Preferred Skills:
• Experience in implementing federal and state regulations in key environmental areas, such as:
• National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System;
• Spill Prevention, Control, and Countermeasures;
• EPA Title V Air permitting, Storm Water Pollution Prevention Plans, and Best Management Practices.


• Relevant environmental certifications, including Certified Inspector of Sediment and Erosion Control (CISEC), EPA Method 9 Opacity Certification, New Mexico Class A/B Operator Certification for Above Ground Storage Tanks, and New Mexico Water Sample Technician (WST) 2.

• Active DOE "Q" Clearance is preferred.

Work Environment:
• This position requires outdoor work in various environmental conditions, including cold, heat, and humidity. Safety gear such as head protection, safety glasses, and protective footwear will be necessary.
