Position Summary:
We are in search of a dedicated and forward-thinking Hydraulic Engineering Project Specialist with 5-10 years of design expertise to join our Washington D.C. team. This team is engaged in a variety of infrastructure initiatives throughout the region, with a particular focus on implementing Green Stormwater Infrastructure in urbanized settings.

Key Responsibilities:
The Project Specialist will undertake a range of design, permitting, construction support, and inspection activities. Candidates should possess a strong foundation in the water resources field, demonstrating proficiency in:

  • Drainage design
  • Grading
  • Erosion and sediment control design
  • Stormwater management design
  • Hydrology and hydraulic modeling
  • Permitting and utility coordination
  • Specification development and quantity takeoffs

The successful candidate will have opportunities for career advancement, including leading and managing projects. U.S. residency is required.

Compensation:
Hourly compensation ranges from $40 to $60, based on experience, education, and certifications.

Essential Functions:
Candidates must be adept at managing multiple projects in a fast-paced, collaborative environment. Familiarity with federal, state, and local design standards and regulatory requirements is essential. Responsibilities include:

  • Identifying watersheds, drainage patterns, and soil conditions
  • Delineating drainage areas for analysis
  • Conducting land cover and time of concentration calculations
  • Designing and analyzing stormwater management practices
  • Creating drainage networks, including pipe, slope, and outfall locations
  • Performing hydrologic and hydraulic analyses
  • Developing post-construction stormwater management plans
  • Preparing erosion and sediment control plans
  • Completing permit applications for relevant agencies
  • Utilizing general engineering principles and practices
  • Preparing technical reports detailing design approaches and methodologies
  • Estimating construction costs and preparing specifications
  • Coordinating with utility companies as necessary
  • Collaborating with internal team members to ensure project completion within deadlines and quality standards

Preferred Qualifications:
Candidates should have excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to coordinate effectively with contractors, external consultants, government agencies, and team members across various locations and technical disciplines.

Required Skills:
Proficiency in Bentley OpenRoads Designer and/or AutoCAD Civil 3D, along with Microsoft Office, is necessary. Experience in hydrologic and hydraulic analysis and design software is preferred.

Education and Experience:
A Bachelor's degree in civil engineering or a related field from an ABET-accredited program is required, along with 4-10 years of experience in water resources or a related engineering discipline. Experience with hydrologic modeling using TR55/TR20 and the Rational Method, as well as storm drain design and erosion control, is essential.

Working Conditions:
This position may offer a hybrid work schedule following a training period, combining office and remote work. In-office work will be conducted in a professional environment. Fieldwork may occasionally be required, necessitating work in various weather conditions.
