Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Legal Assistant to join our team at MEMIC. As a Legal Assistant, you will play a critical role in supporting our Defense Attorneys throughout the litigation process.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist Defense Attorneys with the preparation and filing of state documents, including pleadings and legal correspondence.
  • Compile, analyze, and manage documents, including medical records and legal correspondence, on behalf of the Defense Attorneys.
  • Prepare hearing exhibits and hearing binders for the Defense Attorneys.
  • Manage Defense Attorney schedules and communicate with clients, opposing counsel, and the Workers' Compensation Board.
  • Coordinate the collection, review, and production of discovery requests, including drafting responses.
  • Act as a liaison between the Defense Attorney, MEMIC insureds, the Workers' Compensation Board, and opposing counsel for scheduling and sharing of information.
  • Use Claims software and databases to ensure appropriate processing of incoming legal mail and assigning appropriate chargebacks on behalf of the Defense Attorneys.
  • Communicate effectively with clients, witnesses, physician experts, attorneys, and the Workers' Compensation Board to assist Defense Attorneys with legal strategies.
Requirements
  • Minimum of one year experience working in a legal or claims environment preferred.
  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to type with speed and accuracy.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and other software applications.
  • Excellent grammatical and written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to multitask and work well under pressure.
