Position Overview

The Scharine Group Inc. is seeking a skilled CAD Designer to interpret specifications and documentation, creating detailed CAD drawings that effectively communicate concepts to clients and ensure manufacturability within the organization. This role involves overseeing activities related to the development, application, and maintenance of manufacturing processes, quality standards, and safe operational methods.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage project activities as assigned; liaise with clients regarding project specifics.
  • Ensure compliance with engineering documentation standards through timely and accurate processing; maintain an organized system for engineering records.
  • Utilize SolidWorks as the primary design tool to execute drafting tasks; enhance skills through ongoing training.
  • Create 3D conceptual drawings, prototype designs, and production-ready drawings for various projects.
  • Generate bills of materials, routed process information, and other manufacturing requirements to clearly communicate expectations to production staff and procurement.
  • Establish and uphold quality standards within documented procedures; define and communicate inspection criteria for projects to production personnel as per established methods.
  • Evaluate designs and provide recommendations to meet customer functionality while optimizing manufacturability and enhancing the company's competitive edge.
  • Support colleagues in determining the appropriate course of action for non-conforming products.
  • Represent the company to clients on matters related to functionality or design; prepare necessary quality documentation (e.g., first article reports, control plans, process flow diagrams).
  • Authorize the release of project documentation to production.
  • Review and approve design change requests, updating engineering documentation as required; seek customer feedback when necessary.
  • Provide engineering guidance to team members to assess processes, interpret drawings, and establish build requirements, while supporting quality standards and maintaining safety protocols.
  • Assist in preparing cost estimates following established methods and procedures for division products and services.
  • Engage in project cost reviews.
  • Contribute to new product development initiatives.
  • Research equipment, methods, and systems to recommend improvements in productivity, engineering practices, quality, and safety.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe workspace.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications

Candidate must possess an Associate's degree or equivalent from a two-year college or technical institution; or a minimum of 5 years of experience in mechanical design or a related field; or a combination of education and experience as determined by the Division Manager. The ability to read and interpret documents, manuals, drawings, and procedures is essential. Candidates should be comfortable with calculations involving figures and amounts, applying basic algebra and geometry concepts, and solving practical problems in diverse situations. Strong written and verbal communication skills are required, along with proficiency in operating computers, calculators, and various office equipment. Familiarity with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook is necessary.
