The Recreation Services Coordinator plays a crucial role in the development and management of therapeutic recreation programs for the Arizona State Veteran Home (ASVH) in Yuma, AZ. In this position, you will be tasked with crafting, planning, organizing, executing, and ensuring adherence to established guidelines, policies, and regulations. Your therapeutic services may encompass a variety of modalities, including but not limited to biofeedback, massage therapy, therapeutic touch, Reiki therapy, music therapy, art therapy, guided meditation/relaxation, yoga, and Tai Chi.
As a representative of the State of Arizona, you will learn and apply Arizona Management System (AMS) methodologies, utilizing AMS concepts and tools for effective problem-solving and ongoing process enhancements. In your role within the Department of Veterans' Services, you will embrace a culture focused on Veteran/Member-centered care throughout your responsibilities.
As the Recreation Services Coordinator, your duties will include:
Designing, planning, organizing, coordinating, and implementing recreation therapy services. Collaborating with department staff and interdisciplinary teams to discuss overall treatment strategies. Evaluating program responses to ensure activities align with the assessed needs of Veterans/Members, making adjustments as necessary. Ensuring service delivery complies with facility policies and procedures, as well as state, VA, and federal regulations. Providing training, education, and support for therapeutic staff to achieve the objectives of the program. Participating in the creation and execution of interdisciplinary care plans for all residents receiving wellness services; attending care plan meetings. Assisting Veterans/Members in organizing and developing council meetings in accordance with federal and state guidelines. Maintaining program and administrative records; preparing reports; ensuring documentation adheres to regulations and facility policies. Engaging in budget planning; monitoring expenditures and adhering to budget constraints. Managing supplies and equipment for the Recreation Therapy and Wellness Services Programs. Developing and coordinating volunteer initiatives for the Arizona State Veteran Home, including orientation, training, assignments, supervision, and evaluation. Acting as a liaison between the facility and community organizations and stakeholders. Reviewing and updating Activities/Recreational Therapy policies and procedures to ensure compliance with all regulatory standards; creating new policies as needed. Completing special projects as assigned. Attending agency meetings and serving on various committees. Actively participating in AMS processes. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSAs):Knowledge of:
State administrative rules, policies, and procedures governing the agency and work section. Principles, practices, and techniques of recreation therapy. Alternative therapeutic modalities. The physical, emotional, and psychosocial needs of dementia patients. Community resources. Recruitment and training of staff/volunteers.Skill in:
Verbal and written communication. Time management. Recreation therapy activities. Observing and assessing behavior and progress of patients; applying appropriate non-medical therapeutic modalities. Developing and implementing patient behavioral care plans within an interdisciplinary team framework. Supervisory and leadership abilities.Ability to:
Transport residents using a state vehicle. Selective Preference(s):Clinical training/experience. Strong background in one or more alternative therapy modalities.
Pre-Employment Requirements: Requires a Bachelor's degree in Therapeutic Recreation or a related field. Requires certification as a Recreation Therapist by the National Council for Therapeutic Recreation Certification or the National Association of Activity Professionals, or certification as a Music Therapist by the Certification Board for Music Therapists, or credential as a Certified Occupational Therapist Assistant. Current Negative Tb skin test (Mantoux skin test) within the last twelve months or a written statement from a physician, physician's assistant, or registered nurse practitioner indicating freedom from Tuberculosis, if previously had a positive skin test or Tuberculosis. Requires the ability to obtain and retain a valid AZ DPS Fingerprint Clearance Card. This position requires the ability to drive on State business. Requires possession of and ability to retain a current, valid state-issued driver's license appropriate to the assignment. Employees who drive on State business are subject to driver's license record checks, must maintain acceptable driving records, and must complete any required driver training. If this position requires driving or the use of a vehicle as an essential function of the job to conduct State business, then the following requirements apply:
