Position Summary:
The Advanced Critical Care Paramedic (ACCP) is a certified professional responsible for delivering emergency and non-emergency medical care to patients in both pre-hospital and inter-facility environments. This role also encompasses various administrative and non-technical responsibilities as designated by the leadership of St. Luke's Emergency & Transport Services.
Key Responsibilities:
- Administering basic, advanced, and critical care life support to patients at the scene, during transport, and in inter-facility settings, adhering to applicable federal, state, and local regulations and standards.
- Evaluating the severity of injuries or illnesses to determine and prioritize appropriate medical interventions.
- Executing rescue operations and extricating individuals from hazardous situations using established medical and rescue techniques.
- Providing treatment to patients in various settings, ensuring compliance with all relevant laws and standards.
- Engaging with medical professionals and healthcare facilities to coordinate further treatment and ensure proper patient handoff.
- Maintaining order at emergency scenes, managing crowds, and ensuring the safety of all individuals present.
- Completing necessary documentation, including patient care records and insurance forms, accurately and promptly.
- Demonstrating proficiency in patient assessment, treatment protocols, and effective communication tailored to the patient's age and condition.
- Collaborating with other healthcare team members to foster a professional environment during incidents.
- Thoroughly documenting assessments, findings, and treatments rendered in a timely manner.
- Conducting vehicle and equipment checks to ensure readiness for service.
- Preparing the emergency vehicle for operation, including cleaning, disinfecting, and restocking supplies.
- Participating actively in Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) initiatives.
- Understanding and adhering to the established chain of command.
- Attending a minimum of six staff meetings annually.
- Recognizing legal and ethical responsibilities and functioning within the parameters set by law.
- Operating emergency vehicles safely and in accordance with relevant laws and organizational policies.
Physical and Sensory Requirements:
The role requires sitting for up to 3 hours a day, standing for up to 2 hours, and walking for up to 3 hours. Continuous use of hands and fingers is necessary, along with the ability to lift and carry various weights, including objects weighing up to 350 pounds. Candidates must possess good hearing, vision, and the ability to communicate effectively under stress.
Education:
A high school diploma is required.
Training and Experience:
Successful completion of a Critical Care Paramedic Course approved by the Pennsylvania Department of Health. Certification as a Critical Care Paramedic or Flight Paramedic (CC-P or FP-C) is essential, along with a minimum of three years of experience as a certified Paramedic. Current certifications in BCLS, PALS or PEPP, ACLS, and PHTLS or ITLS are mandatory. Additional certifications such as EVOC/EVDT and NIMS are preferred. Candidates must demonstrate professionalism, initiative, and the ability to follow directions effectively.
