Job Summary:

As a professional member of the healthcare team, the Respiratory Therapist provides therapeutic and rehabilitative procedures and diagnostic tests for patients with cardiopulmonary system abnormalities. Collaborating with physicians, nurses, and other team members, the therapist develops optimal cardiopulmonary care plans for patients. Key responsibilities include patient assessments, evaluating therapy effectiveness, and delegating respiratory care activities to other team members.

Responsibilities:
  • Provides therapeutic and rehabilitative procedures for patients with cardiopulmonary system abnormalities.
  • Collaborates with healthcare team members to develop optimal cardiopulmonary care plans.
  • Performs patient assessments and evaluates therapy effectiveness.
  • Delegates respiratory care activities to other team members as needed.
  • Instructs employees and students in respiratory care procedures and evaluates their competence.
Qualifications:

Graduation from an AMA/CoARC approved Respiratory Care program is required. Registration (RRT) by the National Board of Respiratory Care (NBRC) and licensure to practice as a Respiratory Therapist in the State of Michigan are also required. BCLS certification is required, and ACLS certification is preferred.
