Position Overview:

This role is a hybrid position requiring full-time office presence for the initial three months. The Telecommunications Engineer will oversee the design and engineering of Fiber Optic networks, ensuring the successful execution of projects that enhance communication infrastructure and services.

Key Responsibilities:
- Provide engineering support for new projects, fiber network expansions, and enhancements to network reliability.
- Develop plans for replacing obsolete equipment and identify necessary network services to accommodate growth and evolving requirements.
- Review project documentation to establish the scope of work, create network designs, and prepare the 'Issued For Construction' (IFC) design package. Ensure thorough review of As-Built documents post-project completion.

- Plan and design network communication systems that relate to the backbone infrastructure, including Fiber Optic installations, splicing, and various transport paths.
- Collaborate with Project Management to prepare technical justification documents for new initiatives.
- Participate in daily project meetings to address telecom needs across teams.

- Configure network equipment and maintain compliance with regulatory requirements.
- Conduct site assessments to determine the scope of telecom work and coordinate with vendors for product configuration and equipment orders.

- Create high-level diagrams using MS VISIO and manage fiber projects within GIS tools.
- Develop and review detailed substation diagrams in AutoCAD and provide engineering oversight for all telecom projects.

- Ensure effective coordination with Field Operations for equipment installation, troubleshooting, and testing as necessary.
- Maintain comprehensive documentation related to the Transport Network Infrastructure.

Required Skills and Qualifications:
- Proficient understanding of telecom systems, including private radio, microwave, and optical networks.
- Familiarity with OPGW and ADSS design considerations, as well as optical link budget calculations.
- Knowledge of SONET, TDM systems, MPLS, DWDM, and Ethernet technologies.
- Experience with routing and switching in computer networks and familiarity with protection and control schemes.

- Strong interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills are essential.
- Ability to navigate electrical substations and lead projects with minimal supervision.

Educational Background:
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Telecommunications, or related fields from an accredited institution is required; a Master’s degree is preferred.

Experience:
- A minimum of 3 years of relevant experience in fiber Transport/Backhaul networks is required.
