Job Overview

Position: Associate Quality Engineer

Location: New Hartford, NY

Position Summary

The Associate Quality Engineer role involves performing foundational professional tasks while adhering to established protocols. This position necessitates the application of basic principles and concepts with a degree of professional judgment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Organize and schedule preventive maintenance for laboratory instruments as needed.
  • Ensure a clean and safe working environment at all times.
  • Evaluate VIM/ESR/VAR/Anneal charts and documentation.
  • Verify the presence and consistency of all VAR/ESR sequence numbers and heat numbers on charts and records.
  • Ensure compliance of all charts with relevant internal procedures.
  • Generate printed versions of electronic charts linked to each record and compile VAR BBD & PLD charts.
  • Utilize the SMC Post Processor on data from each record when applicable.
  • Conduct calculations for material removal as required.
  • Prepare Internal Review Reports as necessary and address any variances, consulting with Process Engineers when needed.
  • Input relevant data into Oracle and TIS systems.
  • Organize records for retention and storage.
  • Operate all optical microscopes and associated software competently.
  • Observe and document images of defects, grain structure, and phase morphology on specimens as requested.
  • Calibrate microscopes with computers biannually.
  • Conduct comprehensive metallographic evaluations of Sonic Indications as required.
  • Create digital images of slices and customer materials upon request from Engineers.
  • Maintain a master log detailing all work performed, including dates and descriptions.
QualificationsEducation and Experience
  • A minimum of an Associate's degree in a Technical, Science, or related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience is required. Preference will be given to candidates with at least one year of experience in the aerospace materials manufacturing or laboratory environment.
  • Demonstration of core competencies is expected within six months of employment.
Special Skills
  • Experience with instrumental, analytical, and/or metallographic techniques, along with proficiency in computers, photography, and basic metallurgy.
  • Ability to work independently and efficiently.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Adaptability to changing priorities.
  • Excellent visual acuity.
  • Meticulous attention to detail.
