Position Title: Packaging Design Engineer

Department: Innovation

Reporting To: VP of Innovation

Company Overview: Genera Energy Inc. is a leading manufacturer dedicated to producing sustainable packaging and fiber products derived from locally sourced agricultural materials.

Role Summary: As a Packaging Design Engineer, you will play a pivotal role in developing visually appealing and functional packaging solutions for food and consumer products utilizing thermoformed fiber. Your contributions will be essential in the Innovation Center, where you will engage in the entire product development lifecycle, from conceptualization to prototyping and customer validation. You will gain insights into the properties of thermoformed fiber and create innovative designs that fulfill customer requirements while adhering to the material's constraints. Your work will be prominently displayed in restaurants and grocery stores throughout North America.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and develop innovative, functional, and aesthetically pleasing packaging solutions for various applications, including restaurants, fresh and frozen foods, and consumer goods.
  • Collaborate with clients to understand their packaging objectives and create designs that align with their goals.
  • Partner with the Innovation Center team and sales personnel to refine designs, assist in prototype tooling production, conduct testing on packaging, and support on-site trials of prototypes in client applications.
  • Provide recommendations based on testing outcomes and feedback from clients and Innovation Center colleagues.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Packaging Design, Industrial Design, or a related discipline.
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in packaging design, ideally within the food or foodservice sectors.
  • Proficient in design software such as Adobe Creative Suite, Fusion 360, and SolidWorks.
  • Strong technical foundation with experience in designing for structural integrity.
  • Familiarity with diverse food and foodservice packaging materials and manufacturing processes.
  • Exceptional attention to detail, a strong sense of aesthetics, and the ability to translate client needs into compelling packaging designs.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.

Physical Requirements:

This role requires frequent communication and occasional physical activity, including standing, walking, sitting, and handling objects. The ability to lift and move items up to 25 pounds may be necessary. Vision requirements include close, distance, peripheral, and color vision, with the ability to adjust focus. Safety equipment and clothing will be provided as needed, and hearing protection will be required in high-noise environments.
