Position Overview

Under general oversight, the Nuclear Medicine Technologist II conducts diagnostic and therapeutic procedures utilizing radioisotope and radiation detection techniques.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Clinical Competence: Demonstrates foundational clinical skills in nuclear medicine technology across diverse patient demographics. Prepares and administers radiopharmaceuticals and supplementary medications for imaging procedures using nuclear medicine equipment. Processes and enhances digital images through advanced computing technologies, providing physicians with essential images, data analysis, and patient information for diagnostic evaluation. Selects appropriate technical parameters tailored to individual patient needs and exhibits the necessary knowledge and skills to deliver age-appropriate care.
    • Actively engages in the Clinical Ladder Program, if applicable, at the respective System hospital/location, fulfilling all program standards and requirements.
  • Nuclear Medicine Knowledge: Applies expertise in nuclear medicine principles, including anatomy, physiology, radiation safety, quality assurance, positioning, and patient care techniques. Ensures the secure storage and delivery of radiopharmaceuticals while adhering to regulatory compliance standards set by the Joint Commission, State, Federal, and departmental guidelines.
  • Documentation: Accurately records patient care activities within various electronic health record systems.
  • Work Environment Safety: Maintains a safe and suitable work environment. Oversees supply inventory and notifies relevant colleagues when external orders are necessary. Documents and reports equipment or environmental issues in accordance with established policies.
  • Performance Improvement: Actively participates in departmental and organizational initiatives aimed at enhancing workflows, patient experiences, and overall quality. Contributes to training and educational activities for students and staff.
Qualifications

Education:
  • Completion of a certificate or advanced degree in radiation therapy or nuclear medicine from an accredited program recognized by the US Department of Education or the Council for Higher Education Accreditation.
Experience:
  • Minimum of 1 year of relevant experience.
Licensures/Certifications:
  • Registered with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) (N) and/or the Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board (CNMT).
  • Licensed Nuclear Medicine Technologist in the State of Maryland.
  • Basic Cardiac Life Support Certification.
Preferred Qualifications

Education:
  • Bachelor of Science degree.
Experience:
  • Minimum of 2 years of relevant experience.
Licensures/Certifications:
  • Approval letter from the State of Maryland Board for operating a CT/Nuclear Medicine Device for attenuation correction and anatomical localization.
  • Licensed Radiographer in the State of Maryland.
  • Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board NCT and/or PET certification.
