POSITION SUMMARY:
The YMCA of Greater Houston is dedicated to fostering youth-oriented initiatives that empower young individuals to become impactful leaders in their communities. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a strong commitment to youth engagement, skill development, and the comprehensive growth of adolescents.

The selected individual will be responsible for executing mission-driven and high-quality YMCA teen programs that emphasize leadership skills, college readiness, career preparation, and community involvement.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Program Quality:
Executes educational content within the defined frameworks.

Daily Operations:
Develops and implements daily lesson and activity plans. Guides participants through all facets of the teen leadership journey. Facilitates opportunities for leadership growth and provides support to all participants. Ensures adherence to program standards, including safety and cleanliness protocols. Maintains necessary program documentation.

Leadership:
Oversees teens under the guidance of the Program Director or Manager. Makes informed decisions that align with YMCA standards. Serves as a role model for teens by embodying the YMCA's core values.

Relationship Building:
Maintains open communication with participants and engages with parents. Fosters positive relationships with teens, parents, school staff, and colleagues. Participates in family events, program activities, staff meetings, and training sessions.

Child Abuse Prevention:
Reports any suspicious or inappropriate behaviors and policy breaches. Adheres to mandated reporting protocols for abuse and incidents. Ensures proper sign-in and sign-out procedures for youth, allowing only authorized adults into the facility. Complies with policies regarding boundaries with each child. Ensures that unused rooms and storage areas are secured; routinely monitors high-risk areas (such as restrooms).

Possesses the functional and technical knowledge and skills necessary for effective performance; utilizes best practices and maintains current knowledge in relevant technologies.

QUALIFICATIONS
Must be at least 21 years of age and/or 5 years older than the oldest participant. High school diploma or equivalent (GED). Certifications in CPR, First Aid, AED, and Child Abuse Prevention training. Ability to plan, organize, and execute age-appropriate and developmentally suitable program activities. Previous experience working with diverse populations is preferred.

Current tuberculosis examination record and/or compliance with local health department regulations as required.

Must pass local/state background checks and drug tests. Clear record for operating YMCA vehicles.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
High school diploma or equivalent (GED) with a demonstrated interest in child welfare; prior childcare or babysitting experience is advantageous.

LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read and understand simple instructions, brief correspondence, and memos. Ability to write basic correspondence.

Ability to effectively communicate information in one-on-one and small group settings to clients, customers, and other employees.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to perform basic arithmetic operations and apply these skills in practical contexts involving money and measurements. REASONING ABILITY
Ability to apply common sense to carry out simple instructions and handle standardized situations with minimal variability.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Part-time, generally Monday through Friday during daytime hours. Includes morning, afternoon, and evening meetings. Program aligns with the school calendar. Availability for school program fairs, center-based activities, and meetings with supervisors is required.

TRAVEL
Travel is primarily to designated YMCA or school locations; however, occasional travel to other sites may be necessary.
