Currently, we are in search of a Lead Cultural Resource Specialist to become a vital member of our Cultural Resource Group. This role is based in our Parsippany, NJ office and requires candidates with a minimum of 5 years of supervisory experience in archaeological projects, particularly within the Mid-Atlantic region. The selected candidate will serve as the principal investigator for various survey phases, working closely with our Director. Remote work options for non-field responsibilities may be available.

Successful candidates will showcase their proficiency in authoring technical reports, analyzing archaeological collections, and conducting thorough background research and fieldwork. Responsibilities will include executing tasks in alignment with client and permitting requirements, NV5 standards, and industry best practices. Familiarity with software tools such as Microsoft Office Suite and Adobe Acrobat is essential, while experience with ArcMap/ArcPro, AutoCAD, Adobe Illustrator, and other relevant design/GIS platforms is advantageous.

Our projects cater to both public and private sector clients, including various state departments and city agencies. This position will involve contributing to multiple projects in the Parsippany area and nearby locations, with occasional travel to project sites as needed. Experience in conducting archaeological fieldwork in urban settings is preferred.

Key Responsibilities

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Collaborate with the Director and other team members.
  • Supervise and execute archaeological fieldwork.
  • Prepare comprehensive archaeological survey reports, addressing both pre-contact and historic contexts.
  • Develop field mapping and graphics for report documentation.
  • Analyze cultural materials recovered from archaeological sites in the Mid-Atlantic region.
  • Conduct research at various regional, local, and digital repositories.
  • Organize and maintain digital project files.
  • Engage in professional organizations and participate in local and regional conferences.

Required Qualifications

  • Must meet the Secretary of the Interior's Professional Standards in Archaeology, holding a degree in Anthropology or Archaeology. RPA registration is preferred.
  • Experience in conducting fieldwork in urban environments is preferred.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and Adobe Acrobat.
  • Familiarity with ArcMap/ArcPro, AutoCAD, Adobe Illustrator, or other design/GIS software is a plus.
  • Strong communication skills are essential.
  • Experience in technical writing and adherence to Historic Preservation Office guidelines and standards.
  • A writing sample may be requested during the interview process.
