Position Overview
Dewberry is in search of a Lead Environmental/Civil Engineering Specialist to join our dynamic team. This role will involve a range of environmental engineering responsibilities, focusing on maintenance dredging operations that encompass beneficial use, coastal restoration, stormwater management, and environmental permitting across various states. The selected candidate will be instrumental in developing plans and specifications for dredging activities, evaluating sediment management strategies, and conducting hydraulic analyses.
The Lead Environmental/Civil Engineering Specialist should possess adaptability, a client-centered approach, and the ability to work autonomously while collaborating with a multidisciplinary team of engineers, scientists, and field personnel. The tasks will vary significantly, including overseeing field inspections during construction, conducting soil and groundwater sampling, and engaging in technical work that necessitates excellent communication skills and proficiency in software such as MS Excel, MS Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, Access, and Adobe Acrobat. Familiarity with AutoCAD, Microstation, and/or ArcGIS, as well as Bentley software products, is essential. Current OSHA 40-hour certification and/or other relevant certifications are preferred.

Key Responsibilities
- Delegate tasks to engineers, scientists, technicians, or administrative personnel.
- Engage with clients in various settings, including field visits, meetings, and conference calls.
- Organize and coordinate project activities.
- Develop and oversee project scope, budgets, and timelines.
- Assist in preparing proposals for professional services.
- Collaborate with design teams across multiple offices and disciplines to create comprehensive design documents for construction.
- Ensure adherence to client deadlines and project budgets.
- Meet regulatory and project deadlines effectively.
- Maintain a timely approach to meet project financial targets.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil/Environmental Engineering or a related discipline.
- At least 15 years of relevant experience.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license in NJ, NY, or PA is preferred.
- OSHA 40-hour certification.
- Support Practice Leads and Management in various capacities.
- Ensure compliance with project, client, and regulatory deadlines.
- Demonstrate effective time management to meet project budgets.
- Familiarity with NJDEP, NYSDEC, NYCDEP, and/or PADEP regulations is advantageous.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to communicate effectively with clients, colleagues, subconsultants, and regulatory staff.
- Capable of composing technical reports and other documentation.
- Manage multiple projects concurrently.
- Oversee field sampling and contractor activities in various locations.
- Prepare construction plans and specifications, along with supporting calculations and analyses.
- Proficient in AutoCAD, Microstation, and GIS software.
- Knowledge of hydrologic and hydraulic analysis, stormwater management, and roadway drainage design is highly desirable.
- Experience with 2D hydraulic modeling is preferred.
- Proficient in basic MS Office applications.
- A valid driver's license with a clean driving record is required.
