COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:

Entry-level officers receive a competitive salary starting at $7,563/month as a Patrol Officer I. Upon successful completion of the Field Training Officer (FTO) program, officers can advance to Patrol Officer II, with a salary range of $8,036 to $9,916/month. A sign-on bonus of $1,000 is available for new recruits.

The city contributes 1% of the base salary towards a deferred compensation plan, with an additional 3% available for those who pass the annual Physical Fitness Test. Furthermore, a 2% contribution is made into a Health Reimbursement Arrangement (HRA) VEBA Plan, and a 3% interpreter premium is offered post-academy.

JOB OVERVIEW:

As a Law Enforcement Officer, you will engage in general police duties aimed at safeguarding life and property, enforcing laws and ordinances, preventing and investigating crimes, and maintaining public order. This role requires both independent work and teamwork, adhering to established guidelines while exercising independent judgment.

Reports to: Police Sergeant

Supervises: None

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Promote a culture of respect and teamwork.
  • Engage with the community to foster equity and inclusion.
  • Respond to emergency and routine calls for service.
  • Conduct patrols in designated areas to deter and detect criminal activity.
  • Administer first aid as necessary.
  • Enforce traffic laws and take appropriate action against violators.
  • Utilize de-escalation techniques to manage potentially volatile situations.
  • Maintain proficiency in the use of specialized equipment and firearms.
  • Prepare detailed reports and documentation of incidents.
  • Participate in community outreach and engagement activities.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

Applicants must possess a high school diploma or equivalent, be at least 21 years of age, and have the ability to read and write in English. Candidates must also be lawful permanent residents or U.S. citizens and pass a comprehensive background investigation.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

This position requires the ability to perform fieldwork, respond to emergencies, and engage in physical activities, including lifting, running, and navigating various terrains.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Work is conducted in both office settings and outdoor environments, requiring adaptability to various weather conditions and noise levels.
