Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Police Officer to join our team at the City of Renton, WA. As a Police Officer, you will be responsible for maintaining law and order, protecting the community, and upholding the values of integrity, service, valor, and professionalism.

Key Responsibilities
  • Patrol designated areas to prevent and detect crime, and to enforce laws and regulations.
  • Respond to emergency and non-emergency calls, and provide assistance to the public as needed.
  • Investigate crimes, gather evidence, and interview witnesses and suspects.
  • Make arrests and issue citations as necessary.
  • Participate in community engagement activities, such as attending community events and meetings, and conducting business checks.
  • Collaborate with other law enforcement agencies and community organizations to achieve common goals.
  • Stay up-to-date with changing laws, policies, and procedures, and adapt to new technologies and equipment.
Requirements
  • High school degree or equivalent.
  • Not less than 21 years of age at the time of examination.
  • Ability to read and write the English language.
  • Lawful permanent resident or US citizen.
  • Ability to pass entrance examination successfully and meet the minimum medical and health standards adopted by the Civil Service Commission.
  • Valid Washington State driver's license by date of hire.
  • Stringent personal background investigation, including polygraph examination, psychological evaluation, medical physical, and driving record check.
Preferred Qualifications
  • At least 12 months experience as a full-time, paid, commissioned Police Officer within the last 36 months.
  • Current peace officer certification from the Washington State Criminal Justice Training Commission (CJTC), or equivalent out-of-state certification.
