OAC Nurse Manager

OCC Summary

The successful candidate will establish, manage, and coordinate the Duke Transplant Center (DTC) Organ Acquisition Center. This includes supervising staff, developing policies and procedures consistent with program objectives, and operationalizing a formal IT-based clinical workflow, communication, and quality and process improvement platform that standardizes processes, empowers care teams, and maximizes donor organ acceptance.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Administer and coordinate operational activities of the Organ Acquisition Center.
  2. Make decisions on specific operating problems and issue instructions in accordance with DTC policies and procedures.
  3. Plan, develop, and implement goals and objectives of the center.
  4. Evaluate program objectives on a continual basis and implement changes to existing policies and procedures as appropriate.
  5. Determine fiscal requirements and prepare budgetary recommendations.
  6. Monitor costs and expenditures of program activities and authorize expenditures of center funds.
  7. Participate in establishing and maintaining communication between ancillary department and physicians, nursing personnel, and other healthcare professionals regarding center policies and procedures.
  8. Plan and conduct meetings with staff to ensure compliance with established practices and keep employees abreast of current standards.
  9. Develop, in conjunction with others, appropriate training and employee orientation programs.
  10. Assist in the subsequent performance of duties to include equipment, supplies, space selection, provision, and control of material resources required for and facilities.
  11. Establish standards to ensure cost containment and to optimize working environment.
  12. Administer various personnel actions, including hiring, performance appraisals, disciplinary actions, and other related activities.
  13. Compile and maintain records, reports, and documentation of center activities to be used for program evaluation.

Requirements

The ideal candidate will have a BSN degree, with a Master's degree in nursing preferred. A minimum of five years of nursing experience, with at least two years in transplant, critical care, or disease-specific nursing, is required. Current or compact RN licensure in the state of North Carolina is also required, along with BLS certification.
