Project Engineer

OxyChem is a leading North American manufacturer of polyvinyl chloride (PVC) resins, chlorine, and caustic soda. We are seeking an experienced Project Engineer to join our team at our La Porte VCM Plant in La Porte, TX.
Key Responsibilities:- Maintain a safe and healthy work environment for employees, customers, and the community.
- Develop and execute capital projects to deliver timely, economical, and safe completion.
- Act as liaison with engineering and operations teams.
- Develop and manage project scopes, including technical solutions to meet business objectives.
- Estimate and control costs, develop and control project schedules, and determine applicable OxyChem and regulatory policies and procedures.
- Provide detailed functional engineering, as needed, on assigned projects.
- Define and coordinate the work of engineering disciplines, both in-house and contract.
- Review and approve drawings, including flow sheets, isometrics, P&IDs, layout drawings, and vendor submittals.
- Prepare procedures, specifications, and bid packages.
- Specify, requisition, and expedite materials and equipment.
- Coordinate installation with Construction Supervision and turn-over to operations.
- Perform or oversee other activities as needed for successful project execution.
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering required.
- 5 or more years of job-related experience.
- 3+ years of project engineering experience.
- Ability to develop strong relationships with project sponsors, government agencies, outside engineering, construction, and equipment supply firms.
- Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously, ranging in size from $50M to $5MM.
- Proficient in Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to read, write, and speak in English.
- Persistent in achieving objectives despite obstacles and setbacks.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to work as part of a team.
- Ability to work weekends, holidays, and respond to callouts on a non-routine basis.
- Physical requirements: must be able to lift 40 lbs., climb ladders and stairs, walk, bend, and stoop.
- Project Management Professional (PMP) certification.
- Microsoft Access, Microsoft Project, and SAP experience.
- 5+ years of project engineering experience in the chemical or petro-chemical industry.
- Ten or more years of industry experience.
- Field experience with installation of chemical plant equipment.
