Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Code Enforcement Officer to join our team at Henry County, GA. As a Code Enforcement Officer, you will be responsible for enforcing County codes and ordinances, investigating complaints and violations, and ensuring adherence to established codes, ordinances, and regulations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Respond to complaints of County code violations and investigate possible infractions, including codes related to building, grading, zoning, erosion control, storm water, business license, liquor licenses, signs, or other health and safety issues.
  • Determine compliance or non-compliance with codes, meet with property owners to discuss violations, and issue code compliance notices and official correction notices to inform violators of discrepancies and compliance deadlines.
  • Interpret and enforce the provisions of applicable codes, laws, rules, regulations, specifications, standards, policies, and procedures, and provide information and technical assistance concerning code requirements.
  • Maintain comprehensive records of enforcement activities, enter data into computer systems, and prepare and set up files, sort/organize documents, and file documents in designated order.
  • Process a variety of documentation associated with department/division operations, within designated timeframes, and per established procedures, and operate a personal computer to enter, retrieve, review, or modify data, utilizing word processing, spreadsheet, database, presentation, Internet, e-mail, or other software.
Requirements
  • Requires a High School diploma or equivalent and two (2) years of related experience in investigations, inspections, or related field, and training in building trades, code enforcement, or related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Georgia driver's license.
Working Conditions

The work is light work which requires exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force to move objects. Requires mental acuity including the ability to make rational decisions through sound logic and deductive processes, the ability to express ideas by means of the spoken word and have close visual acuity.

Work is performed both indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions and may require standing for extended periods of time. Performance of essential functions may require exposure to adverse environmental conditions, such as dirt, dust, pollen, odors, wetness, humidity, rain, fumes, smoke, temperature and noise extremes, hazardous materials, fire, unsafe structures, heights, confined spaces, machinery, vibrations, electric currents, traffic hazards, bright/dim lights, toxic agents, animal/wildlife attacks, animal/human bites, explosives, water hazards, violence, disease, pathogenic substances, or rude/irate customers.

The noise level in the work environment may be at times moderate to loud.
