Job Overview

Norfolk Redevelopment and Housing Authority (NRHA) is a leading public housing authority dedicated to providing safe and well-maintained housing for low-income families in Norfolk, Virginia. As an Employment Specialist, you will play a crucial role in developing, coordinating, and conducting programs to train and obtain employment for Jobs Plus program participants.

Salary Range: $60,000 - $80,000 per year, depending on qualifications and experience. Benefits include VRS retirement, medical, dental, and vision insurance; life insurance; long-and short-term disability insurance; tuition reimbursement options; public service loan forgiveness, and much more.

About the Role
The successful candidate will be responsible for:
  • Developing and implementing employment services programs to obtain employment for Job Plus program participants.
  • Collecting, compiling, and analyzing data on program participants' employment needs.
  • Marketing the Jobs Plus program to residents and recruiting program participants.
  • Coaching, counseling, and assisting program participants in achieving their employment goals.
  • Establishing and maintaining relationships with Jobs Plus employers to promote the training and hiring of Jobs Plus participants.

Required Skills and Qualifications
To be successful in this role, you will need:
  • A Bachelor's degree in Social Work, Public Policy, Public Administration, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • One to three years of progressively responsible experience in the human services field.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of employment, vocational development, career development, and personal development programs and techniques.
