Unit Description: The 11th floor of Levine Children's Hospital is dedicated to pediatric hematology/oncology and bone marrow transplant care. We cater to all pediatric patients, including young adults under the care of our pediatric specialists. Our unit comprises 16 hematology/oncology beds and 8 bone marrow transplant beds, along with a specialized MIBG suite. We operate in a dynamic and innovative environment, offering unique services such as phase 1 trials and MIBG therapy. The ideal staffing ratio for hematology/oncology is 1:3/4, while for bone marrow transplant, it is ideally 1:2.

Atrium Health Levine Children's Hospital (LCH) is committed to elevating community healthcare services for the increasing pediatric population in our region. With 247 beds, LCH stands as the largest children's hospital between Atlanta and Washington DC, providing care for high-acuity patients. As the flagship children's hospital within Atrium Health, we offer a comprehensive range of over 125 pediatric subspecialties across more than 30 different specialties. Our facilities include 4 pediatric hospitalist teams, a 20-bed PICU (including Cardiac ICU), an 85-bed Level IV NICU, and an inpatient pediatric rehabilitation unit. LCH is also recognized as Charlotte's only Level 1 Pediatric Trauma Center, staffed by professionals trained in pediatric emergency medicine. For 16 consecutive years, LCH has been ranked among the Best Children's Hospitals by U.S. News & World Report. Additionally, Atrium Health Carolinas Medical Center and Atrium Health Levine Children's Hospital have received Magnet re-designation from The American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) Magnet Recognition Program, highlighting excellence in nursing practice and patient outcomes.

Job Responsibilities

The RN Clinical Nurse I is responsible for delivering professional nursing care through comprehensive assessment, diagnosis, outcome identification, planning, implementation, and evaluation in accordance with facility or department policies and procedures under the guidance of the nursing leader. This role involves maintaining a safe work environment and executing all job responsibilities safely while ensuring clinical and professional competency relevant to the patient population served.

Key Responsibilities Include:

  • Gathering relevant data regarding the healthcare consumer's health or situation and analyzing it to identify actual or potential diagnoses, problems, and issues.
  • Establishing expected outcomes for a personalized care plan tailored to the healthcare consumer or situation.
  • Creating a plan that outlines strategies to achieve measurable outcomes.
  • Executing the identified plan, coordinating care delivery, and implementing strategies to promote health and ensure a safe environment.
  • Delegating care elements to appropriate healthcare personnel in accordance with applicable legal or policy guidelines.
  • Assessing progress towards achieving goals and outcomes.
  • Practicing in alignment with principles of cultural diversity and inclusion.
  • Communicating effectively across all areas of practice.
  • Collaborating with healthcare consumers and other key stakeholders in nursing practice.

Physical Requirements
This role requires walking, standing, sitting, lifting, reaching, stooping, bending, pushing, and pulling. Candidates must be able to lift and support the weight of 35 pounds while handling patients, medical equipment, and supplies. Proficiency in English communication is essential. Candidates should possess intact senses of sight, hearing, smell, and touch, along with finger dexterity and critical thinking abilities. The ability to respond swiftly to changes in patient and/or unit conditions is crucial. Physical Abilities Testing is required.

Education, Experience, and Certifications
Applicants must be graduates of an accredited School of Nursing, with a BSN preferred. Current Basic Life Support certification is required per policy guidelines. A current RN license or temporary license as a Registered Nurse Petitioner in the state of practice is mandatory. For those declaring a National License Compact (NLC) state as their primary residency, they must meet the licensure requirements of their home state; for Non-National License Compact states, a current RN license or temporary license as a Registered Nurse Petitioner is required in the state of practice.
