Job Overview

POSITION SUMMARY:

Under close supervision, the role involves constructing prototype automotive airbag inflators for both internal and external stakeholders. The technician will carry out straightforward routine technical activities following detailed standardized protocols. Responsibilities include assembling energetic subcomponents based on written directives and operating specialized welding, assembly, and testing apparatus. The technician will also execute specific testing procedures and document outcomes.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  1. Assemble prototype automotive airbag inflators in accordance with established procedures and process guidelines.
  2. Set up and operate laboratory equipment including laser welders, resistance welders, gas filling machines, and friction welders.
  3. Construct energetic assemblies from technical drawings and written instructions.
  4. Conduct conformance tests (weld sections, leak checks, electrical tests, hydroburst tests, etc.) to ensure product quality.
  5. Assemble specialized testing fixtures to assess the performance of energetic materials based on written instructions.
  6. Collaborate closely with design and applications engineers, following their guidance.
  7. Maintain energetics inventory in strict compliance with BATF (US Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms) regulations.
  8. Document data for evaluations and highlight any deviations from established standards.
  9. Actively participate in safety programs and adhere to all safety protocols.
  10. Perform additional duties as assigned.

WORK ENVIRONMENT / CONDITIONS / PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

The work environment is primarily in a shop setting. Employees may be required to work on weekends, holidays, and be available on-call as needed. While executing job responsibilities, employees will be exposed to mechanical or chemical processes necessitating the use of personal protective equipment. Excellent hearing is essential. Employees may encounter controlled air conditions with frequent air changes, environmental exposure, and may need to lift up to 45 pounds. Close contact with energetic 'live' inflator systems is expected during regular work activities.

These responsibilities are essential and illustrative of fundamental job tasks. Employees may be asked to perform additional related duties as assigned by management. Reasonable accommodations may be provided to enable individuals with disabilities to fulfill essential functions.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

A high school diploma or equivalent is required, along with one (1) year of relevant experience. Formal training in the specialized area is preferred, such as that obtained from a technical trade school or military technical training. A demonstrated mechanical aptitude is necessary, as evidenced by successful completion of a mechanical aptitude assessment. Candidates must possess the ability to read, comprehend, and follow written instructions and technical drawings. Attention to detail is crucial, as is manual dexterity and the ability to stand for extended periods. Basic computer skills are required, with familiarity in various software programs such as Excel and Word, particularly with spreadsheet functions. Strong communication and multitasking abilities are essential.
