POSITION SUMMARY:
Under close supervision, the role involves constructing prototype automotive airbag inflators for both internal and external clients. The technician will carry out straightforward routine technical tasks following detailed standardized procedures. This includes assembling energetic subassemblies based on documented instructions and operating specialized welding, assembly, and testing equipment. The technician will also execute specific testing protocols and document the outcomes.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:- Assemble prototype automotive airbag inflators in accordance with established procedures and process steps.
- Set up and operate laboratory machinery, including laser welders, resistance welders, gas fill machines, and friction welders.
- Construct energetics assemblies from schematics and written guidelines.
- Conduct conformance tests (such as weld inspections, leak tests, electrical assessments, hydroburst tests, etc.) to ensure product quality.
- Assemble specialized test fixtures to assess the performance of energetic materials based on documented instructions.
- Collaborate closely with design and applications engineers, adhering to their guidance.
- Maintain energetics inventory in strict compliance with regulatory standards.
- Document data for evaluations and highlight any deviations from established norms.
- Actively participate in safety programs and adhere to all safety protocols.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
The work environment is primarily in a shop setting. Employees may be required to work on weekends, holidays, and be available on-call as needed. While performing job duties, employees will be exposed to mechanical or chemical processes necessitating the use of personal protective equipment. Excellent hearing is essential, and employees may encounter controlled air conditions with frequent air changes. The role may involve lifting up to 45 pounds and working closely with energetic inflator systems during regular activities.
These responsibilities are essential and illustrative of the fundamental tasks associated with this position. Employees may be asked to perform additional related duties as assigned by management. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
A high school diploma or equivalent is required, along with one year of relevant experience. Formal training in a specialized area is preferred, such as that obtained from a technical trade school or military technical training. Candidates must demonstrate mechanical aptitude through successful completion of a mechanical aptitude assessment. The ability to read, comprehend, and follow written instructions and technical drawings is essential. Attention to detail is critical, as is manual dexterity and the ability to stand for extended periods. Basic computer skills and familiarity with various software programs, particularly spreadsheet functions, are necessary. Strong communication and multitasking abilities are also required.
