Position Title: Buyer

Job Overview:

Objective:

The Buyer is responsible for overseeing and strategizing the procurement of materials, components, and equipment. This role is crucial in ensuring that necessary materials and services are acquired in a timely manner to maintain seamless production operations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage purchase requisitions for maintenance, repair, and operational supplies across the facility, ensuring optimal pricing, timely delivery, and quality standards from suppliers.
  • Collaborate with various departments to gather necessary information, process orders, and secure approvals for purchase requisitions.
  • Input purchase orders into the procurement system and distribute copies to relevant departments while maintaining accurate records of all transactions.
  • Verify received items against purchase orders to ensure accuracy and completeness.
  • Handle return-to-vendor processes and associated documentation.
  • Maintain and analyze inventory levels, providing insights and recommendations as needed.
  • Communicate vendor production schedules and address any discrepancies in order fulfillment promptly.
  • Negotiate pricing and seek cost-saving opportunities with suppliers.
  • Promote continuous improvement initiatives and demonstrate sound business judgment in all procurement activities.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Follow up on requests for Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS).
  • Process check requests and manage credit references for new vendor accounts.
  • Oversee the procurement of safety apparel and uniforms for employees.
  • Adapt to schedule changes to meet critical deadlines as necessary.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Education and Experience:

A minimum of an Associate's degree in business or two years of relevant experience in procurement is preferred.

Skills and Competencies:

  • Proficient in computer applications including Word, Excel, Access, and Outlook.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to interact effectively across all organizational levels.
  • Capable of managing multiple tasks and projects efficiently.
  • Able to thrive in a collaborative team environment.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

This position does not include supervisory duties.

Communication Requirements:

Regular interaction with the purchasing department, supervisors, and other departments involved in MRO procurement, as well as daily communication with various vendors.

Physical and Mental Requirements:

The role may require occasional standing, walking, sitting, and lifting up to 50 lbs. Candidates must possess strong comprehension abilities and a high level of general intelligence.
