Position Overview

At Stony Brook Medicine, our Certified Nursing Aides play a crucial role in delivering exceptional and compassionate care to our residents, upholding the highest standards of integrity and respect.

Under the guidance of a Registered Nurse or Licensed Practical Nurse, Certified Nursing Aides engage frequently with residents to assist with activities of daily living.

Qualified candidates should exhibit outstanding communication and interpersonal skills, along with a solid understanding of resident care. They must be able to respond effectively to the needs of our residents, making decisions rooted in ethical principles while aligning with our Mission, Vision, and Values.

Key Responsibilities:

The duties of a Certified Nursing Aide include, but are not limited to:

  1. Assisting residents with daily living activities, personal hygiene, and basic human needs to foster a therapeutic and comfortable environment.
  2. As directed by professional staff, safely moving, positioning, lifting, and transporting residents to ensure their comfort and readiness for treatment.
  3. Engaging in conversation with residents, encouraging their participation in treatment activities to promote positive attitudes towards rehabilitation.
  4. Occasionally transporting residents and supplies as needed.
  5. Upholding the rights, dignity, and confidentiality of residents in care.
  6. Performing various housekeeping and cleaning tasks related to direct care to maintain a clean and sanitary clinical environment.
  7. Participating in mandatory quarterly in-service education to maintain certification and fulfill re-certification requirements every two years.
Required Qualifications:

New York State Nurse Aide Certification.

Preferred Qualifications:

One year of healthcare experience, preferably in long-term care. Proficient computer skills and excellent written and verbal communication abilities are highly desirable.

Working Environment:

Working conditions may involve exposure to infectious diseases, blood, body fluids, and other potentially unpleasant elements such as accidents and illnesses. Employees may also encounter unpredictable emergency situations and may be required to work irregular hours due to multiple calls and inquiries.

Stony Brook Medicine is a tobacco-free environment. The use of tobacco products is strictly prohibited on our campus.

This position may require the use of respiratory protection, which may restrict the wearing of facial hair.

Essential Position:

This role is classified as essential, meaning that in the event of an emergency, employees in this position are required to remain on-site or report to work.

Stony Brook Medicine operates 24/7, and all positions may be subject to changes in shifts and days off as necessary to meet operational needs.

New hires must successfully complete a pre-employment physical examination, clear a background investigation, provide three written references, and submit copies of required licenses and certifications.

Failure to comply with these requirements may result in a delayed start date or revocation of the employment offer.
