Position Overview
At Stony Brook Medicine, our Certified Nursing Aides play a crucial role in delivering exceptional and compassionate care to our residents, embodying the highest standards of integrity and respect. Under the guidance of a Registered Nurse or Licensed Practical Nurse, Certified Nursing Aides engage regularly with residents to assist with their daily living activities.
Qualified candidates will exhibit outstanding communication abilities, interpersonal skills, and a comprehensive understanding of resident care. They will effectively respond to the needs of our residents, making decisions rooted in ethical principles while aligning with our Mission, Vision, and Values.
Key Responsibilities of a Certified Nursing Aide include, but are not limited to:
- Assist residents with daily living tasks, personal hygiene, and essential human needs to foster a therapeutic and comfortable environment.
- As instructed by healthcare professionals, maneuver, position, lift, and transport residents using various aids to enhance their comfort and prepare them for treatments.
- Engage in conversation with residents, encouraging their participation in treatment activities to promote positive attitudes towards rehabilitation.
- Occasionally transport residents and necessary supplies.
- Uphold residents' rights, dignity, and confidentiality at all times.
- Perform light housekeeping and cleaning duties related to direct care to ensure a clean, sanitary, and well-supplied clinical environment.
- Participate in mandatory quarterly training sessions to maintain certification and fulfill re-certification requirements every two years.Work Environment:
Essential Qualifications:
New York State Nurse Aide Certification.
Preferred Qualifications:
One year of experience in healthcare, particularly in long-term care settings. Proficient computer skills and excellent written and verbal communication abilities.

Additional Information:
Stony Brook Medicine maintains a tobacco-free environment, prohibiting tobacco products on the premises. This role may require the use of respiratory protection, which may limit the ability to wear facial hair.
Essential Role: This position is classified as essential, meaning employees are required to remain on-site or report to work during emergencies.
Stony Brook Medicine operates as a 24/7 skilled nursing facility, and all roles may experience changes in schedules and days off to meet operational needs.
During the first six months of employment, the use of vacation or personal leave accruals requires prior approval from Human Resources.
Before starting, the selected candidate must:
- Successfully complete a pre-employment physical examination and obtain medical clearance.
- Meet all regulatory pre-employment screening requirements.
- Provide three written references.
- Submit copies of required licenses and certifications.
