Psychiatric Nurse Specialist, UT Health Austin

**Delivering High-Quality Patient Care**
As a key member of the UT Health Austin team, you will be responsible for delivering nursing interventions to assigned patients that are consistent with their stated medical plan of care. This will involve utilizing the nursing process to assess, implement, and record patients' responses in their medical records.
**Reviewing Referral Documents and Scheduling Appointments**
You will review referral documents and medical records to determine patients' clinical indications are appropriate for scheduling with the clinical team. This will involve scheduling patients' appointments, tests, and procedures via an online computer system or telephone, and reinforcing provider instructions in person and through telephone contact.
**Providing Patient Education and Support**
You will provide patient education and document patients' responses in their medical records. Additionally, you will ensure appropriate patient consents and authorizations are obtained for research and/or medical treatment. You will also triage patient phone inquiries according to provider and/or departmental protocols and document your actions in patients' medical records.
**Supervising and Delegating Tasks**
You will provide working supervision and delegate tasks to licensed vocational nurses, non-licensed medical staff, or office support personnel. You will also be proficient in electronic medical record documentation and participate in the recommendation of policy and/or procedural changes according to nursing expertise.
**Maintaining Patient Safety and Equipment**
You will prepare equipment and assist providers during physical exams and medical procedures. You will also prepare and administer medications as prescribed by the provider. You will inspect equipment and facilities visually and physically to ensure patient safety and proper functioning of equipment. Additionally, you will maintain adequate stock of supplies as required for your work area.
**Attending Meetings and Participating in Clinical Activities**
You will attend and participate in meetings related to clinical activities. Your duties may include one or more of the following core functions:
• Directly interacting with or caring for patients
• Directly interacting with or caring for human-subjects research participants
• Regularly maintaining, modifying, releasing or similarly affecting patient records (including patient financial records)
