PreOp/PACU Charge Nurse, Ambulatory Surgery Center, UT Health Austin

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Charge Nurse to join our team at the Ambulatory Surgery Center at UT Health Austin. The successful candidate will be responsible for planning, executing, and evaluating the nursing care provided to surgical patients during the pre-, intra-, and post-operative period.
Key Responsibilities- Function in all perioperative clinical settings and be willing to cross-train to achieve the full capacity of care.
- Work collaboratively with surgeon offices, ASC staff, and adjunct UT departments to facilitate operational workflows and ensure overall goals of the organization are met consistently.
- Liaise with physician offices and vendors for medication, supply, and equipment requests.
- Communicate effectively with surgeons to keep preference cards up to date.
- Act as the Team Leader for clinical staff in the Pre- & Post/PACU settings.
- Collaborate with the ASC Nurse Manager, OR Charge RN, and Surgical Technologist Lead for the planning and distribution of patient assignments based on skill-mix and patient acuities.
- Review upcoming surgical cases to forecast and plan for supply procurement, staffing needs, etc.
- Create the staff schedule on a weekly basis and monitor/approve timecards for accuracy.
- Coordinate interdisciplinary care and manage the patient board.
- Lead routine staff huddles to maintain team alignment.
- Identify learning opportunities and work with the Staff Development Coordinator to provide enriching educational experiences.
- Assess the learning needs of clinical staff and provide orientation and ongoing educational opportunities.
- Provide periodic and annual evaluations of staff according to the reporting structure set forth by the Administrative Director.
- Investigate and resolve incidents and complaints from physicians, patients, visitors, and staff in conjunction with ASC Leadership.
- Responsible for the ongoing analysis and evaluation of nursing services rendered.
- Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations.
- Available as a resource during site surveys.
- Active Texas RN license.
- A minimum of five years intraoperative experience.
- Bachelor's Degree in Nursing.
- BLS Certification.
- ACLS Certification.
- PALS Certification.
- Flexibility in days and hours available to work.
- Knowledge of current surgical procedures and anesthesia care.
- Demonstrated leadership, organizing, and problem-solving skills.
- Effective problem-solving skills to include data analysis and judgment to make effective decisions.
- Ability to work with minimal supervision in a fast-paced, multi-physician practice environment.
- Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with providers, staff, and patients.
- Strong analytical, organizational, problem-solving skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Basic computer skills and experience with electronic health records.
- Previous Charge Nurse experience.
- Master's Degree in Nursing.
- CAPA/CPAN certification.
- Bilingual in English and Spanish.
- Experience in the Pre-, Intra-, and Post-operative setting.
- Experience in an ambulatory surgery center.
