Job Title: Psychiatrist

We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Psychiatrist to join our medical team at the Hampden County Sheriff's Office. As a Psychiatrist, you will play a critical role in providing high-quality mental health care to our justice-involved population.

Job Summary:

The Psychiatrist will be responsible for the management and supervision of all providers assigned to psychiatric patients at HCSO. You will assist the Medical Director in program development and quality improvement projects as assigned. Additionally, you will serve as principal investigator for research projects, participate in teaching and training of all mental health personnel and other HCSO health care staff, and be a key liaison consulting with Massachusetts Department of Mental Health providers, and other agencies, regarding the integration of medical and psychiatric treatment of HCSO patients.

Responsibilities:
  • Manage and supervise all providers assigned to psychiatric patients at HCSO.
  • Assist the Medical Director in program development and quality improvement projects as assigned.
  • Serve as principal investigator for research projects.
  • Participate in teaching and training of all mental health personnel and other HCSO health care staff.
  • Be a key liaison consulting with Massachusetts Department of Mental Health providers, and other agencies, regarding the integration of medical and psychiatric treatment of HCSO patients.
Requirements:
  • Must have at least three years of residency training in a recognized program in psychiatry and at least two years of full-time, or equivalent part-time, professional experience in the field of psychiatry.
  • Current and valid registration as a Physician under the Massachusetts Board of Registration in Medicine and Certification by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology.
  • A strong working knowledge of the purpose, goals and operations of a correctional and treatment-focused facility.
  • Strong clinical skills, including the ability to establish and facilitate a therapeutic rapport with the inmate population, and engage in effective individual counseling, crisis intervention and patient treatment plans when indicated.
  • Ability to work varying hours and shifts with on-call availability.
