This position will play a crucial role in shaping the overall financial strategy of the organization.

POSITION, RESPONSIBILITIES, AND QUALIFICATIONS

The Chief Financial Officer will develop and maintain effective systems and procedures for financial operations, exercising independent judgment to ensure compliance with best practices and organizational goals. Key responsibilities include:

Strategic Leadership

  1. Collaborate with senior leadership on operational and strategic matters as they arise.
  2. Provide insightful recommendations based on financial analysis, projections, and cost management.
  3. Engage in the strategic planning process as a vital member of the senior management team.
  4. Work with the board finance committee on financial trends and changes in the organization’s fiscal position.
  5. Document and maintain policies and procedures for the finance department.

Accounting Oversight

  1. Ensure accurate financial transaction recording in compliance with GAAP, overseeing all general ledger activities.
  2. Review and approve monthly and quarterly reconciliations prepared by the finance team.
  3. Oversee payroll and payables, ensuring timely and accurate processing.
  4. Manage annual federal and state tax returns in collaboration with external auditors.
  5. Act as the primary liaison with auditors during the annual audit process.

Financial Management and Team Leadership

  1. Serve as the main contact for finance-related issues with various board committees.
  2. Prepare comprehensive monthly financial statements, including detailed analyses of operational results.
  3. Coordinate the annual budget planning and maintain records of budget progress.
  4. Review financial reports with senior management to ensure alignment with budgetary goals.
  5. Forecast cash flows and manage relationships with lenders.
  6. Lead and mentor the finance team, fostering a professional and committed work environment.

The ideal candidate will possess significant experience in accounting and financial planning, particularly within a not-for-profit context. Strong interpersonal communication skills, combined with a high level of integrity, are essential for this leadership role. Familiarity with the performing arts sector is highly desirable.
