Position Overview

Clarke Schools for Hearing and Speech is seeking dedicated and passionate individuals for the role of Teachers of the Deaf. These full-time positions are essential in providing quality education to young children with hearing impairments.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Design and maintain a nurturing environment that promotes independence, creativity, and respect for both materials and peers, ensuring a joyful learning experience.
  • Implement a child-centered curriculum that aligns with developmental principles, fostering problem-solving skills and laying a strong foundation for future academic success.
  • Support parents by creating a welcoming atmosphere where they can observe and engage with their children’s learning journey.
  • Conduct regular observations and document developmental progress to inform educational strategies and reporting.
  • Enhance auditory and language learning opportunities within the classroom setting.
  • Encourage effective communication among students and ensure that classroom activities are integrated with individualized learning sessions.
  • Act as a facilitator, diagnostician, and observer in the classroom, focusing on the unique needs of each child.
  • Engage students in both individual and small group activities aimed at developing auditory and spoken language skills.
  • Provide diagnostic insights regarding students' auditory and spoken language capabilities through various assessment methods.
  • Educate and empower parents with follow-up activities that promote their child's communication development.
  • Collaborate with the director to discuss individual student needs and maintain clear communication with families.
  • Participate in team meetings to plan and evaluate classroom activities based on the children's developmental interests.
  • Attend relevant workshops and meetings to enhance knowledge and skills related to hearing-impaired education.
  • Contribute to the Individualized Educational Plans for students by setting specific goals in various developmental areas.
  • Prepare and submit semi-annual reports on student progress in a timely manner.
  • Maintain regular communication with parents through a dedicated notebook, sharing insights on their children's development in audition, speech, and language.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education.
  • Preferred training in auditory/oral education for hearing-impaired children and experience in parent counseling.
  • Master's degree in Education is required.
  • Master's degree in Education of the Deaf is preferred but not mandatory.
  • Eligibility for Florida certification as a teacher of the deaf is required.
  • Willingness to meet additional requirements set by contracting school districts, including ESOL and licensing standards.
